Action: “Books for Kharkiv Libraries”

Project Goal
  • The campaign “Books for Kharkiv Libraries” is an initiative of the NGO “Mercy of Sumy Region”. Its purpose was to collect books in the Ukrainian language for donation to the libraries in the city of Kharkiv. The campaign officially began on March 12 and continued until May 1, with a collection point at the “Druzhba” cinema, where individuals could contribute their books. The main goal of the “Books for Kharkiv Libraries” project was to enrich the literary collection available in Kharkiv libraries by gathering a diverse assortment of books in the Ukrainian language. The project aimed to enhance the reading experience for library visitors and promote a culture of reading and learning throughout the city.

Project Description
  • The response of the community was extraordinary, and within a few weeks, starting on March 15, more than 100 textbooks and works of fiction in the Ukrainian language were collected. This active participation reflected the community’s strong support for improving educational and entertainment resources in the libraries of Kharkiv, which had been damaged by shelling.

  • The collected books were meticulously prepared for transportation to Kharkiv and then distributed among various libraries in the city. The distribution process ensured that each library received a fair share of diverse literary works that catered to the interests and educational needs of the local population.

Due to the campaign’s overwhelming success and the continuous influx of books, the NGO “Mercy of Sumy Region” decided to extend the campaign’s duration at the request of the participants. This extension allowed more people to contribute their books, further enriching the literary collection available to readers in Kharkiv. The campaign’s impact was a testament to the power of community solidarity and the importance of supporting cultural resources in times of need.
